A Singer Is Their Own Worst Enemy
Are you still running this blog? 'Cause I wanted to submit something, but then I noticed that you haven't updated in three months...

oops! I got distracted, but I’d love to take up trying again. I simply didn’t have the resources when I started to drum up a following or to locate people to participate. Thank you for asking, and feel free!

It, uh, would probably help the blog if I changed it to be at least slightly less hideous and more polished-looking. That’s on my to-do list.

Having the somewhat dubious honor of being the first person who ended up semi-volunteered for this project is Tumblr user fleethescene55, Timmy Johnston.  I have to say right off the bat that he’s worth checking out on Youtube; he’s got a sweet voice and his guitar work is solid.

In my absolutely amateur opinion, he’s very good. His vocal power could be helped a little bit by breathing exercises and in general working on breathing for singing, but to be frank he’s just as good as a lot of the male pop singers you hear on the radio. He knows what kind of songs he likes to sing and seems to be fairly good at picking music suited to his light smooth voice. Sometimes on quicker or longer phrases he’s a little choppy and occasionally he ends up trying for a breath at an awkward moment, but who doesn’t face that? As long as he takes care of his voice he’ll only improve with time, and he’s already very good.

He’s obviously not just a casual hobbyist; his recordings are of both decent video and audio quality and he seems to have a good system down for doing them. Judging solely from the video descriptions and quality of the setup I’d think there’s an interest in developing in a commercial direction there, as well.

Definitely going to be listening to him again, even if the music he enjoys performing isn’t necessarily the style I listen to often.

I’m looking for people to do singing critiques for, and actually was very surprised to end up starting with this. Whatever skill level somebody has or thinks they have, if they’d like a critique or review or even just simple comment then they should drop by the ask box because that’s what this blog is here for.

Upcoming changes: actual posts about actual peoples’ singing, a less eyesearing general appearance to the blog, and a better idea of what I’m doing. Hopefully.

Obnoxious theme tricked out for maximum hideousness? Check. Bravado firmly in place? Check.

Still working my general idea and plan out, but I thought irritably that the internet needed something like this and so here this is. Ask me to listen to your singing and either submit me the link or have it as the top post in your blog and I’ll try to give a constructive critique— or just an opinion if you want it. Simple as that.

Here’s hoping I’m not in over my head.
